1. Elephanta Caves
With a touch of ancient architecture, this UNESCO world heritage site is a wonder creation. You can start your day with a one hour ferry ride to the caves from the Gateway of Indian. Explore the caves to your heart’s content. Enjoy the sea journey and its marvellous view by standing on top of the ferry. After you are done with your exploration, go for your picnic time in some shady place nearby after returning from the caves. 2. Igatpuri
Having a major railway station in Maharashtra, connecting many major cities, it’s an easy journey to reach this place 130 kilometre from Mumbai via train. One can also reach this place via road, which is indeed a very smooth and easy journey again. A stunning hilly town, generally covered by fog, mist and cloud. With a moderate temperature of 20-250C touching the town, it has a pleasant weather to host a picnic for a day and enjoy nature. In a picturesque place like Igatpuri, you needn’t any entertainment source, since the beauty of nature shall keep you engrossed.

3. Matheran
Based in the Western Ghats, Matheran hill station might be unknown to people of India, but it’s quite famous in Maharashtra. Densely covered by forest, with almost misty and chilling environment this place is the only motor free zone in India. One needs to park their vehicles at a point and walk up the rest of the way, take a horse ride or toy train to reach the main point.

Situated in the Malabar hills, these two spot gives a breath-taking view of the Mumbai city. The Kamala Nehru parks holds the famous Shoe House which is a major attraction for its calm and soothing environment, ideal for a weekend outing or a winter picnic. Spending time here in the evening would lead you the splendid sight of the Chowpatty beach, marine drive and the Queen’s necklace.

5. Pawna Lake
Isolated and away from the crowded Lonavala city, this place proves to be an ideal picnic site. In fact an overnight stay is a marvelous idea too. It’s the perfect camping site by the lake side amidst the greeneries. Speak to the trees and birds and listen to your own voice while feeling the tranquillity of nature.

This clean and comparatively less crowded beach, gives a wonderful early morning view. Reach this place by morning to enjoy the cool breeze and some exciting water sports. With once in a lifetime views, these are gigantic vineyards where the famous Sula festival takes place. 4 hours’ drive from Mumbai, the city of Nashik is itself a quiet and decent one. Spending a day in the Sula, tasting various types of wines, wouldn’t really cost you much either.
